moss tents & Jacques Cousteau

In the 1980s, MOSS backpacking tents were renowned in the camping world for their exceptional quality and high price. Among Bill Moss’s favorite creations was the STAR series — a design featuring two arch poles and a mesh ceiling that allowed campers to gaze at the sky.
Jacques Cousteau, the legendary French explorer and developer of scuba diving equipment, commissioned Bill Moss to create an original six-person tent for his expedition to Easter Island. This special tent later inspired the design of the ENCORE model, which was eventually released to the public.
In addition to this collaboration, Bill Moss also designed exclusive tents for L.L.Bean, Eddie Bauer, and Neiman Marcus, and frequently held exhibitions in art galleries to showcase his work.
